Designer/Artist of Custom Designed Jewelry,
Hand Engraving & Scrimshaw
Dave is shown here enjoying one of his favorite hobbies:
Cowboy Action Shooting. He's known as "Diamond Duster" in the Single
Action Shooters Society (SASS). Gun Engraving is very popular with the Cowboy
Action Shooters.
Dave Jones is a New Mexico native and often he
finds his subject matter in the culture of the Southwest. Dave uses both
fabrication and casting processes to create wearable art. Some techniques used
are hand engraving, scrimshaw, and overlay to enhance the design of his jewelry.
Australian opal, diamonds and other precious stones are added to highlight his
designs.
Hand Engraving for the intricate detail work is becoming a lost
art. Finding "Engraving Masters" who will share the techniques is
difficult. Thanks to the Firearms Engravers Guild and N.R.A.'s summer training
programs, Dave has studied the art of engraving and scrimshaw.
Dave belongs to several organizations dedicated to the design
and hand crafting of fine jewelry and engraving including the American Opal
Society, the Metal Arts Society of Southern California, the Firearms Engravers
Guild of America, the Single-Action Shooting Society (SASS) and Cowboy Action
Shooting organization.
